I have never taken a Spanish class or studied it. When I realized I would be teaching it to the twins this year I figured I might pick up a little myself along the way. And I have! What I didn’t realize is what musical careers it would open up to me.
I understood every word of this. Which isn’t remarkable, considering I’ve had about the equivalent of one semester myself, but it did make me happy.
Truly, language opens up a whole new world.
I did write Starbucks, and complain. So far, no response. I’ll let you know what happens.
And, for those of you who wrote that I looked nothing like how you’d pictured me, don’t feel bad. I don’t look like how I would picture myself either. Thin, dark, angular face–that is how I feel. But my blonde Dutch-German father and love of chocolate pretty much took care of that.

Isn’t it fantastic how you can be ANYONE YOU WANT on a blog? People used to think I WAS African. Until I started writing about race issues, and I had to out myself. But still.

Remember, on the Internet, noone knows you’re a dog. (Courtesy of the New Yorker) Whenever I mention one of my “imaginary friends,” as my husband likes to call my fellow bloggers, my husband will keep reminding me of that.

I find it disconcerting when people say that I DO look the way they imagined. But I thought you looked quite lovely.

Just because you look different than people expect doesn’t mean that you look WORSE. Silly.
Did you mention all your blogging friends to Starbucks? Cause I’m hoping they may send a little forgive-us-for-being-stupid love our way too.

Yes, I loved seeing your picture (and the one with your husband on the other blog I clicked on). Your hair is beautiful and you are quite the groovy chick! :o)

That video was awesome.
I had a summer of Russian. All I remember how to say is “I am a spy and I work for the CIA.” And “bellybutton.”

I loved the ‘One Semester Spanish Love Song!’ Cracked me up! Hmm, yeah, and I can say “ice cream” in Russian.
You look just fine, I also like your hair!

“I don’t look like how I would picture myself either.” made me laugh.

In the photo, you look exactly like my best friend in California. I think most people are surprised to meet someone in person after “talking” to them via blogs and emails. Funny how we make images in our minds that way.

Ah, yes, Spanish. The most commonsensical language for an American to learn yet I somehow haven’t managed the effort. It’s never too late, though, I do believe. And when I say that I am always reminded of my great-aunt who decided to take on spanish in her 80’s and proceeded to memorize a book of the bible in her new language. I forget which book.
